James W. Loewen is a distinguished sociologist and author, best known for his influential work, "Lies My Teacher Told Me." He earned his bachelor’s degree from Carleton College in 1964, followed by a master’s (1967) and doctorate (1968) from Harvard University. Loewen began his teaching career at Tougaloo College from 1968 to 1975, later joining the University of Vermont, where he served until his retirement as a professor emeritus in 1995.
